This week’s post is a little bit different. My blog posts are typically based on my own experiences and my own images. So, let’s start with the disclaimer that I didn’t take any of the photos in this post. However, sometimes I supplement my own photography work by working as a retoucher. I have always retouched my own images for clients and I have also done catalog and website retouch work for a variety of different companies. It’s always a bit strange to work on someone else’s images, because there is a level of disconnection. I don’t know why they chose the settings they did. I’m not sure about the circumstances of the shoot. I have nothing to go off but the image and the client’s notes.
In this case, my client delivered 15 images and wanted a few specific things corrected, but just general punching up the images so they would stand out on their new website. Maiden Voyage is a Los Angeles based Sketch comedy group and their material is fun and bold and their images needed to reflect that. The images below are side by side before and after comparisons. Images on the left are my retouched photos and the images on the right are the photos in their RAW state, right out of the camera. They are basically digital negatives. I edited the photos in Lightroom and Photoshop using my trusty Wacom tablet. If you have any questions about retouch work, don’t hesitate to reach out and ask.
