A Beachy Engagement

For this week’s blog post, I have the pleasure of sharing an engagement session that I shot a few weeks ago. Miranda and Saki are getting married on the beach in Florida and they were looking for some engagement photos that kept the beach theme, but showcased their other coast, California. We trekked out to El Matador State Beach in Malibu, hoping that the towering rocks and caves would bring something distinctly Californian to their images. Below are a few favorites from the day. It was such a pleasure working with these two, and I am wishing them lots of love and happiness in their married future.

In terms of equipment, this was all really basic. We couldn’t drag any big lights to El Matador because the tide comes up really quickly. So, I shot with my 24-70 2.8 on my Nikon D810 and we used an off camera Speedlight (the SB710) mounted on a stand with a soft box (and held by my wonderful assistant, Alex) to punch things up a little bit.

For these last two images, we placed the speedlight behind Miranda and Saki, to give them a slight glow.
